Theodore Schwamm is a composer whose music blends elements of the Baroque, Romantic, Jazz Fusion, and EDM styles to create dense, groove-driven textures that feel both structured and improvisatory. His music is thematically unified by imagining new ways of living that center connection with non-human species and responding to the climate crisis.
Theodore’s recent commissions and collaborations show a focus on bringing concert music to local communities. These include a solo piano work for Dr. Jae Won Kim, a solo viola suite for Elijah Lisboa, an SATB a cappella work commissioned by the Gray’s Creek High School Chorale, and a work for SATB choir and piano commissioned by Cumberland Choral Arts.
He is the winner of the 2023 Case Western Reserve University Undergraduate Choral Composition Competition, and a recipient of the American Bach Society’s 2022 Frances Alford Brokaw Grant.
A graduate of Kenyon College, Theodore has studied composition with Saad Haddad, Nicky Sohn, Ross Feller, and Ted Buehrer. When not composing, Theodore spends much of his time working as a singer, voice teacher, and composition instructor.
Based in North Carolina with his family and two cats, Theodore continues to explore our relationship to Earth and the environment through his music.
