Program Note
Spring Morning takes its text from the A.A. Milne poem of the same name, from the poetry collection When We Were Very Young. As a lifelong reader of Milne’s Pooh stories and poems for children, I have long loved the way this poem perfectly captured my occasional experience of being restlessly bored as a small child. When the poem entered the public domain, I immediately felt called to set it to music, aiming to portray that wandering, aimless energy of an unstructured day in childhood.
